Funeral services for Elizabeth Poole Clements, 94, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the Zion Hope Cemetery Annex in Crisp County.

Elizabeth died at her residence Monday morning, Feb. 2, 2015. She was born in the Hatley Community, to the late Thomas Young Poole and the late Minnie Cobb Poole. She married Thomas Jefferson “Mr. Tom” Clements, Jr. on a cold winter’s night on Nov. 20, 1937.

Elizabeth and Mr. Tom came up through the depression on $25.00 start out money. She stuck through the good times, as well as bad, until Mr. Tom’s death on Aug. 5, 1987. Aunt Liz, as many people knew her, was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She always placed others first and her family were her love and heart. She reared five boys and one girl as well as many others who came into her home.

She will always be remembered for her Sunday dinners and welcoming smiles. She leaves a legacy that will live on forever. She is preceded in death by two children: Emory Clements and Ray Clements; her siblings: Inez Owens, Annie Martin, Bill Poole, Leonard Poole, Frank Poole and Monk Poole plus five additional siblings that died at birth. She is also preceded in death by her grandchildren: Lee Clements, Jr. and Tommy Clements; a great-grandchild: Scotty Alexander; and dear friends: Ethel Hathcock, Grace Kirkland and Maxine Saturday.

She is survived by her children: Lee Clements, Sr. of Abbeville, Ga., and Walter Clements, Jerry Clements and Mary Ann Clements all of Cordele; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
