Our Staff

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home, Inc. opened on April 12, 1977 with co-owners Charles L. Hughes and A.J. Wright. 

Charles L. Hughes moved to Cordele in 1936 and served almost 40 years as a licensed Funeral Director. He passed away in 1996 and is survived by his wife Dell Faircloth Hughes.

All of our licensed directors adhere to the highest standard of ethical practices and are committed to ensuring that all of your needs are attended to. Their commitment to the community and genuine compassion toward families are but a few of the characteristics that make them outstanding in their field. We are proud to have them on our staff.

A. J. Wright

Owner / Licensed Funeral Director / Licensed Embalmer

A lifelong resident of Crisp County, is a graduate of Crisp County High School and the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas, Texas. He served for 12 years as Crisp County Coroner and is a member of the Cordele Lions Club and Cordele First Baptist Church. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer.

Tommy Kilcrease

Licensed Funeral Director / Licensed Embalmer / Life Insurance Agent / Notary Public

A native of Crisp County, first began his career with the funeral home in 1982. He returned in 1985 as a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a graduate of Crisp County High School and a member of the Northern Heights Baptist Church, where he is active serving as purchasing agent, deacon and church organist. He is a licensed funeral director, embalmer and life insurance agent and member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia.

T. W. Kilcrease

In Memory

T. W. Kilcrease was a native of Worth County, GA. He retired from the Georgia Department of Labor and member of Northern Heights Baptist Church. T. W. died January 28, 2018.

Carolyn Wright

Licensed Master Cosmetologist / Lady Attendant / Notary Public


A lifelong resident of Crisp County, Carolyn is a lady attendant and licensed master cosmetologist. She is a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church.

Jimmy Black

Licensed Funeral Director / Licensed Embalmer

A native of Crisp County joined the funeral home in 1980. He is a graduate of Crisp County High School and the Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a member of the Cordele Lions Club and is a former Cordele City Commissioner and serves as pastor for Pleasant View Baptist Church. He is married to the former Holly Ramsey of Albany. They have one child, Lauren. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and a member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia.

David Humber, CFSP, MBIE

Licensed Embalmer / Licensed Funeral Director

A resident of Vienna, GA, David is a licensed embalmer and a licensed funeral director. He is a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science and member of Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, a member of British Institute of Embalmers and a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church where he serves on the Administrative Council. He is a member and past-president of Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia.

Blakely Humber

Licensed Funeral Director / Notary

A resident of Vienna, GA, Blakely is a licensed funeral director and member of Vienna United Methodist Church. She is chairman of the Vienna Historic Preservation Commission and a member of Dooly County Health Emergency Assessment Resource Team. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Vienna Better Hometown. As an organ recipient, she is a very active supporter of organ and tissue recovery and member of Georgia Transplant Advisory Council for Middle Georgia.

Zach Williams



Zach Williams joined the staff of Hughes & Wright in 2021. Born in Macon, Georgia, he is a graduate of Tiftarea Academy, Georgia Southern University, and Commonweath Institute of Funeral Service. He is married to Fran Lord Williams originally from Sandersville, Georgia. They have two children that they adore, Sadie and Bobo. From time to time, you may see photos posted on Facebook of Bobo in his suit assisting his father at the funeral home. The Williams attended Cordele First Methodist Church.
