Obituary for Thomas Langley "Tommy" Sanders

Mr. Thomas Langley Sanders, age 70, died Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA, after a brief illness. Mr. Sanders was a resident of Statesboro, GA where he had lived for the past 30 years. Born in Cordele, GA, Mr. Sanders attended college at the University of Georgia. After meeting the love of his life on a blind-date and getting married shortly after, Tom enlisted with the United States Marine Corp and served as an officer. He then went back to the University of Georgia as a graduate student where he received a Masters degree in Plant Pathology. Mr. And Mrs. Sanders would have been married 50 years this June.

Currently retired from several careers in the agricultural field, Tom spent his days running his farm in Jenkins, County. After family, the farm was Tom’s second love and he was at his happiest when the whole family would gather for a bonfire and s’mores. Although he was an avid hunter and fisherman, he was especially fond of the quiet evening drives around his farm just to look at wildlife and survey the land. He was also an active member of Pittman Park United Methodist Church.

Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Connie Sanders of Statesboro; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Jody Rogers of Statesboro, GA, and Kolby Sanders-Lewis and Brady Lewis of Decatur, Ga.; and a sister, Nancy Brannen (Dwayne) of Macon. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Jim Rogers, Langley Rogers, Brinson Anne Rogers, Racer Rogers, Cloud Lewis and Zimmie Lewis.

A visitation will be held at Pittman Park United Methodist Church on Tuesday, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00am at Pittman Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Bagwell officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill Brown.

Interment will be in the family cemetery at Broken Silo Farms in Millen, Georgia.

Pallbearers will be Tom Kingery, Tom Armstrong, Burney Martin, Joe McGlamery, Horris Weatherbee and Rhesa Thomas.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice.
