CORDELE — Lewellyn Hurt Porter, 91, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at Cordelia Manor in Cordele, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday Jan. 29, 2017 at the funeral home from 1:30 until time of service.

Mrs. Porter was a native of Cordele and the daughter to the late William Alexander Hurt and the late Fannie Pearl Jones Hurt. She was a retired seamstress for Roobin’s Department Store. She was a part of the New Covenant Church of Cordele Family. She was very active in church where she was a Sunday school teacher, Youth Director and Missions Director. Mrs. Porter was a Pink Lady for the Crisp Regional Auxiliary and enjoyed sewing and cooking. Mrs. Porter was predeceased by her first husband Wilburn Thomason and her late husband James Horace Porter. She was also predeceased by her brothers: William A. Hurt, Jr., Winifred Hurt and John Edward Hurt; sisters: Inez Hurt Whittaker and Lois Hurt Taylor.

She is survived by her sisters: Caronee Hurt Boyd of Warner Robins, Ga., Wynell Hurt Howell and her husband Clark of Cordele, Ga., Katherine Hurt Smith of Plainville, Ga. and Linda Kennedy and her husband H.E. of Cordele, Ga. Although she was not blessed with children of her own, she dearly loved her nieces and nephews and was affectionately known by them as “Granny Lew.”

The family of Mrs. Lewellyn Hurt Porter would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Fellowship Home at Cordelia Manor, Dr. David Kavtaradze and his staff and Reflections Hospice.
