Obituary for Ella Lee Alexander (Perry)

Ella Lee, 90 Years of Love, was formerly a resident of Norfolk, VA for over 60 years prior to moving to Chesapeake, VA, where she peacefully passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018.

Ella was born in Warwick, GA, Sept. 27, 1927, to the late John Russell Perry and Cassie L. Perry of Cordele, GA. She also was predeceased by her husband, Harland R. Alexander of Brunswick, ME.

Ella Lee, was more affectionately known as Grandma to her loving family. She graduated from East Crisp County Schools in Cordele, GA, where she met her husband and later married in 1951 at the First Methodist Church in Moultrie, GA. They moved to Norfolk while her husband proudly served in the Navy and where she dedicated her life to taking care of her family and raising her children. She was the epitome of selflessness and loved her family unconditionally, always putting their needs before her own and making sure they knew how much she loved them.

Ella shared her love of cooking for others through her work with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ocean View VFW, as well as being a vendor hostess serving pizza samples at grocery stores and cooking for her family and friends every chance she got. She also helped her daughters through volunteer work with the Girls Scouts of America and was a talented seamstress for her family and friends. Ella was also a proud Republican, campaigning and working the polls in her neighborhood. She was once also a Delegate and traveled to Washington, DC for the RNC.

While we will miss her more than words will express, we thank God for the time we had with her, the love we shared, and the memories we made.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Bonnie L. Satterwhite of Chesapeake, VA and Nancy Scott and her husband, Douglas, of Southern, MD; a grandson, Matthew Scott of Northern, VA; granddaughters, Gabrielle Scott of Northern, VA and Natalie K. Montanaro of Norfolk, VA; a loving niece, Belinda Spires and husband, Ronald, of Abbeville, GA; nephews, Jon and Rusty Perry of Seville, GA; and several loving friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Hughes and Wright Funeral Chapel in Cordele with burial following at Seville Cemetery in Seville, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org in memory of Ella Lee Alexander.
