Obituary for Wylene B. Hodges

VALDOSTA – Wylene B. Hodges, 89, passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2021, at South Georgia Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb 27, 2021, at Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to the Covid pandemic, seating is limited, masks are required, and social distancing should be maintained. On behalf of the family, we ask that you kindly refrain from physical condolences such as shaking hands, hugging, and kissing. Direct eye contact, loving words, and a warm demeanor are just as meaningful to the family.

Mrs. Hodges was born in Brunswick, Ga. to Edgar Eldridge and Lona Lou Harpe Blalock. She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnston William Hodges, Sr., her son, Bobby Ray Hodges, and her siblings, Mary Louise Blalock and Henley Blalock.

She was a Certified Nursing Assistant most recently employed at River Willows Nursing Center, Abbeville, Ga. She had several hobbies, including crocheting, working puzzle books, reading, and fishing with her husband. She was an avid fan of John Wayne, her hero. She was also known as a jokester and did not mind pulling a prank or two on someone if given the chance. She always enjoyed a good laugh and having fun.

She is survived by her children: Lona Sue Turberville and her husband Guy of Valdosta, Jake Hodges and his wife (Dianne) of Cordele, Cecil Eldridge Hodges and his wife Judi of Pitts, and Melissa Wylene Davis and her husband Matt of Valdosta; her daughter-in-law, Sue D. Hodges of Fitzgerald, Ga.; her grandchildren: Jacob Lamar Haman, Jake Hodges, Jr., Brenda Johns, Becky Vaughn, Lee Hodges, Joy Hodges Davis, Johnston Cecil Hodges, Deidre Ware, Jaci DeCoff, Tammy McVeigh, Josh Hyatt, Marylou Dotson and Charles Helms; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-law: Eloise Hodges.
