Obituary for Wade Watson

Funeral services for Wade Watson will be held Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. at Pleasant View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 P.M. until the time of the service.

Mr. Watson, age 88, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at his residence. He was a native of Wilcox County. Mr. Watson was the son of the late Billie Monroe Watson and the late Naomi Wade Watson. He was preceded in death by his brother James M. “Bo” Watson and a sister Bernice Watson Hance. He was a farmer in Wilcox for 45 years.. Mr. Watson was in the United States Army where he served in the Korean Conflict served in Alabama, California and Germany., He was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church. He also served as Farm Bureau director, president of Wilcox County Sweet Potato Growers Association. Mr. Watson served as director of Colony Bank of Wilcox, serving 8 years as chairman of the board. He sang bass with the Gospel Echos of Pitts for 31 years. He served on the Wilcox County Arts Council. Mr. Watson was the music director Pleasant View Baptist Church for 48 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 71 and served as chairman of board of Wilcox County Gold Kist. Mr. Watson was a director on Community Board of the REA.

He is survived by his wife: Beth M. Watson, of Pitts, Ga. brothers-in-law: L.V. (Shirley) McClain, Charles W. (Linda) McClain, Howard (Carolyn) McClain all of Adel and Gus Hance of Pineview, a sister-in-law Wilma Jane Watson of Boaz, Al. and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Pleasant View Baptist Church Building Fund.
