Miss Rowland taught speech to my 3rd grade class in Cordele and I remember her as being simply "wonderful". ; Kenneth Spencer Worthy II, Savannah, Georgia.

One of my favorite neighborhood ladies to visit when I was growing up. I would always (even when I was an adult) ask her to take her thumb off-one of her tricks she used to do. Thinking of her brings a smile to my face and a good feeling to my heart!
Ginger and Al! Enjoy the memories of your lovely mother....Lee (Williams)

Hey Al, Ginger and Family. I'm sorry for your loss. Mrs. Whelchel was a nice and sweet lady. It's been years, but I remember always smiling being so kind to me. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. May you get stronger each and every day.

Virginia Rowland Whelchel came to Cordele as a very young teacher and since we shared a last name, I immediately called her Cuz. She was a fantastic speech/drama teacher and influenced my choice as a speech and drama major in college. She was always laughing and passed on wonderful advice. She told me that I never had to get drunk at college parties to have fun - I could just use my acting skills and be sober and have a ball. She became an adult friend when I lived in Cordele for a few years. I will always be thankful she came to Cordele High School to teach.
