Obituary for Sue Helen Johnson (Carden)

CORDELE — Sue Helen Carden Johnson, 81, passed away at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville, Ga. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Due to the Covid pandemic, seating is limited, masks are required, social distancing should be maintained. Burial will follow at Sandy Mount Cemetery in Crisp County.

She was the baby of 13 children born to Henry Edward and Martha Irene Watson Carden. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Floyd R. Johnson, and her son-in-law, Sammy Fuller. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Iva Carden Blissett, Harvard Carden, Vester Carden, James Carden, Charles Carden, and infants Bennie Carden, Cecil Carden, Bobby Carden, Willie Mae Carden, Lucy Pearl Carden, and Imogene Carden.

She was an honor graduate of the last graduating class from East Crisp High School. She was also a member of the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team. She will be remembered as having a quick wit and enjoyed word games and puzzles.

She is survived by her three daughters: Martha Fuller, Gail Davis, and Amy Johnson; her sister: Betty Wade; her grandchildren: Adam (Whitney) Davis, Julie (Spencer) Nelson, Samantha (Matt) Beard, Nina (Alex) Carriger, Allen (Donna) Fuller, and April (James) Boulware; her great-grandchildren: Haylee Beard, Sadie Davis, Kaleb Gravitt, Ethan Nelson, Jackson Nelson, Adalynn Davis, Wyatt Carriger, Kami Fuller, and Drew Fuller.

She was retired from Crisp Regional Hospital after 40 years of service. She also served as the treasurer of Hatley Baptist Church for 40+ years along with being the church pianist.

She had many years of enjoyment and singing Gospel music with the late John Coffee and Jean Oglesby with Myrna Coffee as pianist. In their retirement years, Sue and Floyd enjoyed traveling to Gospel sings with her sister, Betty Wade, and special niece, Judy Wills, and her husband Bill.
