Obituary for Mary Poole Champion

CORDELE — Mary Alice (Poole) Champion, age 87 of DeSoto, Georgia, formerly of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia, Tuesday at 9:10pm, December 24, 2019.

Born Sunday, April 03,1932 to the late Clayton Wabash Speer and wife Mary Elizabeth (Barclay) Speer. After losing both of her parents at a young age, and unable to locate biological family to raise her in remaining childhood years, she was placed for adoption and was adopted June 1943 by the late Marlin Ryley Poole and wife Audrey (Bainum) Poole, until she married her late husband, William Clarence Champion, Jr on January 07, 1962.

Mary worked retail with Eckerd Drugs, Luria's, and retired with Marshall's. She was Episcopal in Faith. Her hobbies included, but not limited to crocheting, baking, word search puzzles, and being the best Mother, Grandmother, and Friend, she could be. She was very sweet, humble, kind, and touched the hearts of those that met her, with her soft-spoken voice, contagious smile, and laugh. She is sorely missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, both her biological parents, and both her adoptive parents.

Survived by her daughter Gwendolyn Champion Staley of DeSoto, Georgia, formerly of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and her two granddaughters Mackenzie Ray Staley of Orlando, Florida and Kylie Faith Paris of DeSoto, Georgia, formerly of Altamonte Springs, Florida.
