Funeral services for John Henry Woodard, 91, will be in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, 2018. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018 at Fellowship Home at Cordelia Manor.

He was born in Cordele, Ga. to John Amos Woodard and Mabel Bodrey Woodard. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jewel Ruth Jones Woodard. He is also preceded by a sister, Mae W. Knight, and a brother, N. E. Woodard.

He was a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church. He was a charter member and deacon of Omar Heights Baptist Church. He was a proud retired farmer. He was a member of the Crisp County Farm Bureau for over 50 years and as a past president and director. He was a District Supervisor of the South Georgia District of Soil and Water Conservation for over 30 years. He was an Inductee to the Georgia and Southeastern Regional of Soil and Water Conservation Halls of Fame. He served as Grand Marshall of the Crisp County Watermelon Festival and was the This Is Your Life honoree. He was a member of the Empowerment Zone Board as well.

He enjoyed driving and displaying antique cars and tractors in parades and festivals. He was a member and fan of Nascar as well as a member of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. Traveling and meeting people was one of his enjoyments, having never met a stranger. Farming and raising cattle were his lifetime joy. His greatest blessings were his daughters and their spouses, his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He loved his friends and caregivers at Fellowship Home at Cordelia Manor.

He is survived by his daughters: Sharon (Ferrell) Oliver of Cordele and Carol (Pat) West of Pinehurst; his siblings: Willie H. (Lisa) Woodard and Ruth Busbee Bellflower all of Macon; his grandchildren: Heather Oliver of Valdosta currently serving in Uganda as a missionary and Jonathan (Carson) Oliver of Hahira, Ga.; and his great-grandchildren: Asher Oliver, Nina Kate Oliver and Briggs Henry Oliver all of Hahira.
