Obituary for Joe Steven "Steebo and Swamper" Mullis

VIENNA — Joe Steven Mullis, 65, died at his residence Sunday evening, Oct. 4, 2020. He was also known as “Stebo” among his friends and “Swamper” by his veteran friends. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020 in the Vienna City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service and family and friends are welcome to the home afterwards.

Mr. Mullis was born in Warner Robins, Ga. to the late Reba E. Floyd and the late Houston R. Mullis. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Ronnie Mullis, Fleeta Steele, Rita Skipper, and Becky Skipper; and his step-fathers: D. W. Skipper and David Anderson.

He is survived by his wife: Pam Mullis of Vienna; his sons: Slade Mullis and Chance Mullis both of Vienna; his sister: Jessica Anderson of Hawkinsville; his sisters-in-law: Darla (Allen) Welch and Mary Faye Mullis; his brother-in-law: Sandy (Jan) Kelly; a special friend: Jack Carver: and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Joe’s memory are requested to be sent to Vietnam Vets Legacy Vets MC, C/O Jack Carver, 337 Shiloh Road, Americus, GA 31719. Joe was a supporter of this group to make sure no veteran was mistreated as the Vietnam Vets were. He was also very concerned and interested in supporting Vietnam Vets suicide prevention, POW's, and MIA’s.
