Obituary for James David "Buddy" Wells

CORDELE — Buddy Wells, 67, of Cordele died Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Crisp Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. In accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, masks are definitely recommended and seating will be limited due to social distancing. Burial will follow in the Seville Cemetery.

Mr. Wells was born in Cordele, Ga. to the late Edward Franklin Wells and the late Reva Joycelyn Harden Wells. He is preceded in death by his brother, Harold Edward Wells. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Buddy played three years of baseball for the Minnesota Twins Minor League. Mr. Wells was a member of the Association of Professional Ball Players of America. Buddy received numerous awards over the years working with Monarch/US Foods including driver of the month, zero speed percentage, pacesetter and many more. He would have been with Monarch/US Foods for 30 years this month. He also enjoyed farming, fishing, and watching wildlife.

He is survived by his daughter: Stephanie Wells of Manhattan, Kan.; his sisters: Joyce Bergquist, Kathy (Jimmy) Miller and Jeri Ann Wells all of Cordele, Ga.; his grandchildren: Chandler Mixon and Mia Cusumano; his nieces and nephews: Justin Wagnon, Joshua Wagnon, Jeremiah Bergquist, Ty Bergquist Katelyn Bergquist, Donald Jackson and Laken Wells; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
