Obituary for Helen Benson Williams

Helen Benson Williams, 91, of Cordele, entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on September 26, 2020, surrounded by her children. Helen was born May 7, 1929, the daughter of the late E.O. Benson and Ann Piland Benson. She was preceded in death by her infant son, her husband, Richard M. Williams and her brother Jack Piland Benson.

Helen lived her entire life in Cordele, GA. She loved living in the country. She also enjoyed picnicking and boating at Lake Blackshear with family and friends. She was always involved in her children’s activities. She had spunk; never wanting to be left out, always ready to go.

In her early years of marriage, Helen helped her husband in the motel business. She was very capable, serving in many supporting roles from bookkeeper to restaurant manager at one time. She had fun antique shopping with her husband later on. She also enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with her dear friends.

Helen was a member of First Baptist Church. Previously, she was a long-standing member of Third Street Baptist Church.

The greatest impact she had on her family was through her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ along with her constant prayer life. All her family depended upon her prayers throughout her lifetime. She was a wonderful caregiver, always there for her family.

Although widowed at age 55, she had a positive outlook, never complained, and was a great source of strength and stability as a result of her dependence upon God. She leaves a true legacy of faith, hope, and love.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Suzanne Stone and her husband, Craig, Richard Williams Jr. and his wife, Dee, and Patricia Hudgins and her husband, Dixon. Grandchildren include Carter Williams Stone, John Craig “Buster” Stone Jr., Richard “Mo” Williams III (Robyn) and their children, Letti Kate and Brooklyn, Chelsea Williams Pierce (Kevin) and their children, Evie, Grayson, and Beckett, Leigh Ann Pridgen (Ben) and their children, Lucy, Lawson, and Dotsy, AC Whelchel (Kellie) and their child, Gencie; one sister, Dotsy Benson McGown and her husband Mike; and a sister-in-law June Strickland Benson; four nieces and one nephew.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Sunnyside Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Crisp Academy, 150 Crisp Academy Dr., Cordele, GA 31015, or a favorite charity of your choice.
