Obituary

Francine was born in Hudsonville, MI to Bertha Rose York and Edgar York, the youngest of 9 children and the apple of her daddy’s eye. She was preceded in death by her father and siblings, Harold, Mary, and Kathleen and was survived by her mother and other siblings, Junior, Bill, Rosemary, Terry, and Bert. The family moved to Cordele, GA when she was 2, and she was raised there while her dad built the family a home. She was 10 years old when she lost her dad, leaving the house unfinished. She attended Crisp County Schools.

She lived a hard life, starting her own family as a teenager with Leah and Jesse. Her gypsy spirit led her to travel and subsequently settled in northern Georgia and had three more children, Howard, Shandrika, and Corrina. She struggled to care for her children and because she wanted the best for them, her children were raised by family members while she remained close in love and deeds.

Francine lived her life searching for happiness while trying to make others happy. She was an excellent cook and loved to have picnics at the park with all the fixins. She was kind and thoughtful, always remembering birthdays and anniversaries. Cards and letters were evidence of her love on special occasions. If you were her friend or family, there wasn’t a thing she wouldn’t do for you. She was faithful and loyal. She loved deeply with her whole heart. She was thoughtful and considerate and would go without so that you knew you were loved. She was kind and generous and sometimes people took advantage of her generosity. Even then, she forgave completely and loved unconditionally. She was caring and compassionate. Having known what rejection felt like, she did not want anyone to go through that. She loved people and she loved God.

She adored her children and was so proud of them, full of love and praise every chance she got. Although she struggled to find her place in her children’s lives, she never gave up and watched from a distance. As the grandbabies were born, her love for them brought her closer to her children. She was always excited and ready to love and spoil them. Her grandchildren, Bailey and Jessa loved to spend time with her on weekends and school breaks. She kept up on Makayla, Rosaleigh, and Vincent through phone and texting and was anxiously awaiting grandbaby number six in the spring.

She returned to her childhood home several years ago to be with her mom after surgery and stayed on as her companion. She had many friends locally and across the country. She had lived in several states and kept in touch frequently. She will be missed dearly and always remembered as the person spreading peace and love.

The family will honor her with a mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 6pm.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, friends can join her family to celebrate her life with food and conversation in the St. Theresa’s parish hall and grounds at 7pm.
