CORDELE – Cecil Bowen Odom, 81, known to some as “Big Daddy” passed away Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2021, at Montezuma, Ga. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 at the Oakfield Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to the Covid pandemic, seating is limited, masks are required, and social distancing should be maintained.
Mr. Odom was born in Warwick, Ga. to William A. and Opal Bowen Odom. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Atkins Odom, his son, Dell Odom, and his siblings, Raymond Odom and Charles Odom.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Reeds Construction. However, he enjoyed driving and continued to work driving a tractor trailer. He was a member of Oakfield Baptist Church and loved gardening.
He is survived by his daughter: Sara Lynn Wilkes of Cobb, Ga.; his siblings: Lee Odom and his wife Julia of Sylvester, Ga., Shelba Jean Wood of Atlanta, Lela Giddens and her husband Stan of Poulan, Ga., Karen Barnes and her husband Donald of Cordele, and Karla Turner of Leesburg, Ga.; his grandchildren: Falon Skinner and her husband Tommy, Erica Odom, Alissa Odom, and Amanda Odom; his great-grandchildren: Heidi Coffee, Zaden Williams, Nathan Lawrence, and Cash Skinner; and Raymond Dean, who was like a son to Cecil, and his wife Kathy.
