CORDELE — Alfred “Al” Mills, 84, of Cordele died Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Fellowship Home at Cordelia Manor. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. A private burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. In accordance with COVID-19 regulations, face masks or face covers are required and seating will meet social distancing requirements.
Mr. Mills was the son of a military family, Alfred Shultz Mills and Elisa Dellanoy Mills, and born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Alfred Michael Mills. He was a retired industrial engineer and plant manager for Cordele Uniform. He was a Past President for both the Cordele Lions Club and the Hawkinsville Lions Club. He was a Past Master with the Cordelia Masonic Lodge as well as a Past Commander for the Flint River Power Squadron. He served as a Board Director for the Pine Hills Country Club, a member of the Boy Scout Committee and as Band Booster President. He enjoyed his 17 years as a conductor for the Sam Shortline Excursion Train. His hobbies included golfing, wood carving, boating, his computer and RV’ing in every U. S. state.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Gay Boatright Mills of Cordele; his children, Katharine Ann Mills Strickland, Edwin Fredrick Mills and Walter Lee Mills; his brother, Edwin Mills; his grandchildren, Kristen Ann Selph, Ronald Andrew Selph, Shelly Linnville, Christopher Mills, Jonathon Mills and David Mills; and his seven great-grandchilren.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Mills’ memory to Reflections Hospice, 202 East 4th Ave., Cordele, GA 31015.
